Selling online can be done if you have a website and content that others cannot ignore. But you need to make sure the visitor, or your lead doesn’t click out of the site before he even sees the “buy this” button. You should learn effective copy writing strategies so that you can compel people to stay on your site and buy what you’re selling.
Internet marketers have learned that the secret to internet riches has something to do with writing a great copy. Web content writing is different from a “copy” because the latter is used to sell things online. The professional copywriters nowadays are either making a living off selling products, or making a living by writing copy for the serious marketers. Copywriters are not born great at writing copy, they have improved their craft via trial and error, and by using a few special strategies.
Basic Copy writing Strategies for Beginner Marketers
1. A Compelling Headline
The headline is the title of your page. Your headline should make a promise. You can create a great headline if you know exactly how your products or services are going to make your prospects’ lives better.
2. Touch Your Prospects’ Emotions
Never beg someone to buy from you. That’s not what I mean by “emotional connection”. Being a good marketer means you can touch your prospect on the emotional level without begging.
According to psychologists our buying decisions are based first and foremost on our emotions. For example, if you’re selling a finance book, touch on the prospect’s burning need to retire early, have all the things that money can buy, or get rid of his mountains of debt. Emotional buying is one of the major reasons why the eskimo bought a truckload of ice from the shrews salesman.
3. Don’t Talk to the Wind, Talk to the Person
. Talk to your reader like you would talk to a friend. They need to develop rapport with you as soon as they start reading and scrolling down. You want them to feel that the whole letter is for them and them alone.
People will not stop long enough to read your copy if there’s no benefit in doing so. Instead of using the words “I, Me or We” in your copy, use “You”.
4. Target Your Market
There’s no substitute for this last tip. Get to know your audience intimately. What is their most desperate wish? Does your copy answer these questions for them? Understanding your audience will help you create an emotional and powerful copy directed specifically at your audience.
For instance, a woman who’s in her late thirties wants to look like she’s 25 forever. A mom is pressured to teach her child potty training. A dad feels frustrated that he can’t help his son fix the XBOX. These people go online to search for solutions. It’s YOUR role to provide it and land a sale in the process.
